Bike cops hit the trails and paseos in the Santa Clarita Valley on Wednesday, issuing citations for trespassing.

Deputies assigned to the SCV Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit got on station-issued bicycles and all-terrain vehicles Wednesday and carried out patrol checks of areas not easily accessible by cars.

Santa Clarita’s extensive trail system is a hallmark of the area, along with nearly 8,000 acres of protected open space.

“It’s difficult to access these areas in a patrol car, so deputies utilize quads periodically,” said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

Miller pointed out, however, that a patrol car was posted near the bike detail at all times, ”just in case someone needs to get transported to jail.”

Deputies conducted checks of areas throughout Santa Clarita, issuing citations to a few individuals who were in areas that were clearly marked, “No trespassing, private property.”

“There was also a person located who had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest,” she said.
