Santa Clarita’s first all-girl Scouts BSA troop took top awards at the recent Bill Hart District Camporee.
The two patrols from Troop 2019 of Saugus competed against 42 other patrols from nine Scout troops. More than 300 Scouts competed in 10 events including archery, map and compass, an obstacle course and shotgun shooting.
The Matey Patrol won the President’s Award for best overall patrol, an award that had not been awarded for 10 years. The Phoenix patrol won the Camporee Spirit Award. They get to keep the Camporee spirit stick for the next year to celebrate.
The young ladies from Troop 2019 have been Scouts for just over three months.
Formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America, the organization changed its name to Scouts BSA for the program that includes 11- to 17-year-olds. The name change came with the inclusion of girls to its ranks.
