Burglars who smashed the shop glass of a hair salon in Valencia overnight escaped, allegedly, with rolls of pennies, dimes and nickels after failing to find other cash.

The Great Clips salon on Copper Hill Drive, near Rio Norte Drive, was boarded up early Thursday after thieves looted the shop of coinage, shop spokeswoman Debbie Collett said.

“Someone broke in.  They smashed the window of the business,” she said. “They got rolls of pennies, rolls of dimes and rolls of nickels.”

Staffers found the shop’s safe by a curb in front of the business, apparently left there by the thieves

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station interviewed shop managers about the incident Thursday at 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Jim Royal.

“It was some time before 7 a.m.,” Collett said. “They shut off the power.”

Shop staff and detectives were expected to review video surveillance footage of the incident.
