The Education Center at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital invites the community to receive a free DermaScan facial screening July 19, which is a new service that shows how damaging the sun can be.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Henry Mayo Fitness and Health Center.

Running from 4-7 p.m. at the Education Center, located at 24525 Town Center Drive, in Valencia, the event aims to help attendees learn the best ways to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful effects.

“DermaScans can serve as great starting points for monitoring skin health, and can also provide an opportunity to begin a conversation with a doctor,” hospital officials said in a news release Monday.

Local residents who wish to undergo DermaScan facial screening must arrive without makeup to obtain an adequate reading, according to the news release. “This screening involves an ultraviolet examination of the face, looking for dry or oily skin patches. Results will be provided to participants so they can discuss any irregularities, in skin color or pigment, with their doctors.”

There is limited space available to receive the free screening, so appointments will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis, the release read. Registration is required and can be done online at henrymayo.com/dermascan

For more information, residents can call 661-200-1300.
