The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce announced Brian Schlick, co-owner of Schlick Art & Photography, as the founding chair for the Small Business Council Thursday.

The goal of the council is to bring small-business members together to discuss issues, policies and small-business initiatives, according to chamber officials.

“To me, it means quite a bit,” Schlick said regarding his appointment as chair. “It means that the Chamber of Commerce is really focused on helping small businesses grow in Santa Clarita. Small businesses are huge in our community, and to be able to introduce others in the community to the different resources the community has to offer to help us grow is what we are all hoping to achieve.”

The council is expected to focus on three main objectives, which include advising the chamber on small-business-related issues as well as programming and networking opportunities, supporting the chamber’s “Retail Walks” with elected officials, and promoting the “Small Business Saturday,” a nationwide program that highlights small businesses the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

“We are pleased to have Brian Schlick serve as chair of the Small Business Council to help develop our efforts to address the needs of small businesses,” Nancy Starczyk, chair of the chamber board, said in a prepared statement Thursday. “Brian has shown his dedication to this community, not just through business, but his volunteer efforts.”
