Although a number of roads remained closed Friday night due to the Tick Fire, the California Highway Patrol opened northbound lanes of Highway 14 to traffic mid-afternoon Friday.
Southbound lanes of Highway 14, however, remained closed from Golden Valley Road to four miles south of Acton at Escondido Canyon Road because of the fire.
“The (Los Angeles County) Fire Department has apparatus on the highway,” CHP Capt. Ed Krusey said at a news conference Friday morning.
“If you live in an area affected by the fire, make sure you’re prepared,” he said. “And, make sure you know alternate routes from your house.”
An alternate route if you are traveling from the Lancaster area includes taking westbound Highway 138, which goes to Interstate 5.
CHP road closures as of Friday evening:
- SB Sierra Highway at Sand Canyon.
- WB Vasquez Canyon at Sierra Highway.
- SB Sierra Highway at Davenport.
- EB Vasquez Canyon at Bouquet Canyon.
- EB Placerita Canyon east of SR-14.
- SB Sierra Highway at Sand Canyon.
- WB Vasquez Canyon at Sierra Highway.
- SB Sierra Highway at Davenport.
- EB Vasquez at Bouquet Canyon.
- EB Placerita Canyon East of SR-14.
- Sand Canyon at Soledad Canyon.
- Soledad Canyon at Agua Dulce Canyon.
- NB Sand Canyon at Placerita Canyon.
Due to the closures on Highway 14, fire officials are asking residents to divert to the following roads and highways:
- Interstate 5.
- Highway 138.
- San Francisquito Canyon Road.
They are also asking residents to avoid using Bouquet Canyon Road because firefighters and deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are using the road as a primary pathway to deliver resources to the staging point.

- Sierra Highway to Vasquez Canyon.

- Whites Canyon Road to Ashboro Drive.
Northbound traffic at:
- Plum Canyon to Skyline Ranch Road.
- Plum Canyon to La Madrid Drive.
- Plum Canyon to Santa Catarina Road.
- Plum Canyon to Via Joyce Drrive.
