CHP: Bakersfield man detained in Valencia

California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office personnel detained a suspect after receiving a “Be on the Look Out” broadcast regarding a suspect involved in an assault with a deadly weapon incident in Bakersfield on Tuesday morning, according to CHP officials. 

The suspect was traveling toward the Newhall area at around 11:25 a.m., according to an email statement from Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP. 

The assault occurred in the Bakersfield area with the reported victim being a Bakersfield Fire Department employee, the email statement said. 

The suspect’s vehicle was reported as a white Jeep Cherokee and officers began searching for the suspect vehicle, the statement said. 

An officer who was patrolling Interstate 5 southbound north of Valencia Boulevard saw the vehicle ahead of him and additional officers responded to the location, according to the email statement. 

The suspect’s vehicle exited the freeway at McBean Parkway and began traveling northbound on The Old Road, the statement said. 

As the suspect’s vehicle approached Valencia Boulevard, officers conducted an enforcement stop and were able to take the suspect into custody, according to the statement. 

CHP officers turned over custody of the suspect to the Bakersfield Police Department, the statement said.
