A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and obstructing a peace officer after a single-vehicle traffic collision on Interstate 5 southbound, north of Pyramid Lake Road on Sunday evening, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.

When officers arrived on the scene, the driver continued driving and was called in as a reckless driver exiting I-5 southbound at Templin Highway, according to an email statement from Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.

Once officers responded to the scene, the updated information indicated the suspect vehicle had been involved in a traffic collision with a semi-truck and was missing a wheel on I-5 northbound near Vista Del Lago, the statement said.

CHP officers located the suspect and ordered her to exit the vehicle, which she initially refused to do, according to Burgos-Lopez’s statement.

Officers on the scene were able to gain compliance and ultimately arrest the woman on suspicion of a misdemeanor DUI of alcohol and drugs and a felony obstruction of a peace officer with force or threat of force, according to the statement.

She was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to the statement.

As of the publication of this story, the woman is still in custody with no bail set because she needs to see a judge to be arraigned, which is scheduled to happen on Tuesday morning, Burgos-Lopez said in a phone interview.
