Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials confirmed one man was in custody Tuesday morning after another man was found injured on the ground near a Castaic gas station and tire shop.
Station deputies are investigating the incident as an alleged assault that was reported from 31573 Castaic Road, according to Deputy Nicolas Marinelli of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
Sheriff’s deputies and nearby California Highway Patrol officers could be seen responding to a 911 call involving “a person on the ground,” Marinelli said, adding that when deputies arrived shortly after 9 a.m., a person was injured.
The severity of the person’s injuries was not known as of the publication of this story.
Initial reports indicated the two men might have been homeless and living near the area where the attack happened, according to first responders on the scene, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak with the media.
Officers, deputies and an ambulance could be seen outside State Tire in Castaic across the street from the initial address given by station officials.
An employee of the location declined to comment when reached by phone Tuesday.
Fire officials responded to Castaic Road, just west of Ridge Route Road, but the details of their service call were not immediately available.
The identity of the man in custody was not immediately available from station officials.
This is a breaking news story, and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
