National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 throughout the United States, is being celebrated in various Los Angeles County parks.
From this weekend to Oct. 11, residents throughout L.A. County, including the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas, can experience Hispanic music, food and traditions firsthand across the 59 locations.
Local residents can attend the following events at the respective dates and times:
- Dr. Richard Rioux Park in Stevenson Ranch: Thursday, Sept. 18, 5 to 7 p.m.
- Val Verde Park: Thursday, Sept. 25, 4 to 6 p.m.
- Castaic Sports Complex: Friday, Oct. 10, 4 to 6 p.m.
According to a news release from the County of Los Angeles’ Parks and Recreation Department, “The annual festivals are an opportunity to honor and uplift Latino communities, celebrate their enduring legacy and embrace the cultures, traditions, and contributions that make Los Angeles County stronger and more connected.”
The events are free, and will include entertainment native to countries such as Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.
“Activities may include folklórico and salsa dance performances, art exhibits, cooking demonstrations, family-friendly workshops, and even the excitement of lucha libre wrestling,” according to the release. “L.A. County Parks is honored to provide safe, welcoming spaces where families can come together, share stories, and take pride in the heritage that strengthens Los Angeles.”
