A 47-year-old Valencia man was arrested on suspicion of carjacking and impersonating a peace officer on the 24000 block of Newhall Ranch Road around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Deputies responded after numerous reports of a person attempting to take a vehicle and claiming to be a law enforcement officer, according to an email statement from Deputy Mariela Picard, spokeswoman for the station.
During the investigation, deputies determined that the suspect approached individuals at the location and repeatedly identified himself as a police officer, the statement said.
He then attempted to take a vehicle and directed others to assist him in moving the vehicle and attempted to take the vehicle’s keys and continued to represent himself as a law enforcement officer despite being confronted by individuals at the location, according to the statement.
Deputies located, detained the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of carjacking and impersonating a peace officer, the statement added. He was subsequently transported to the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
His bail is set at $100,000, Picard’s statement said.
