The intersection of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway has become the de facto area for Santa Clarita Valley protests. It is one of our busiest intersections, a place where protesters will be seen by thousands, just what the activists desire. In recent demonstrations I have seen signs that read “ICE is Trump’s Gestapo,” “End Fascism,” “No Oligarchs” and “No ICE in SCV.” The people holding these signs all suffer from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). What they are espousing is ridiculous, asinine and just plain not true. And yet, some impressionable people who read these lies take them to heart and develop a desire to act on them.
Charlie Kirk, a true patriot, was assassinated last week by a young man who believed the incendiary rhetoric of the left. In Utah of all places. I hope the SCV is better than this.
Sunday afternoon, on that very intersection, I saw three young people who represent better angels. They were holding signs that read “We Love You Charlie.” Not a big demonstration. Just three motivated young people with love in their hearts for someone who impacted their lives in a positive way. This is what the SCV is really about.
The next time you pick up your hate-filled sign to demonstrate by the Corner Bakery, think of those three better angels. They are unsung heroes who have shown you a better way.
