A Homicide Bureau official indicated Thursday evening that a dead body found in Val Verde on Sept. 13 was not determined to be a part of a criminal investigation.

Clark Merle, 31, of Castaic, was identified Thursday as the man found deceased on a property near the intersection of Val Verde Road and Oakwood Avenue in Val Verde, according to a representative of the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office via email.

An inquiry was made at Wednesday’s Castaic Area Town Council meeting, but there was no information immediately available from the Sheriff’s Department.

The Medical Examiner’s Office website listed Merle’s cause of death as deferred pending an autopsy.
