Re: Signal editorial, “Are We Seeing the Death of Civil Discourse?” Sept. 13.

Upon reading the above editorial published by The Signal’s Editorial Board, I was taken aback by the insinuation that Santa Clarita Democrats are lacking in civility and compassion. This was seen blatantly in sections of the column and was counter-productive to the exact point — hope for return to civil discourse — that was trying to be made.

“There are glimmers of hope for civility. To her credit, one Santa Clarita Valley Democrat posted this on Facebook: Violence is not the answer. No one deserves to be gunned down over ideologies.”

Please acknowledge me as another of MANY Santa Claritans who may not agree with The Signal’s editorial position on numerous issues but who believe that violence is not the way to solve our differing points of view.

I must also take issue with the not-so-veiled insult that I and many others from my “side of the aisle” fall into a “supposedly compassionate” category. To belittle us with denigrating comments such as this is once again defeating your own purpose.

My sympathy is extended to Charlie Kirk’s young family in their time of loss and I am sickened by the contemptible act that killed him. I, along with many on “the other side of the aisle,” including not only Santa Claritans but leaders like Gavin Newsom, Barack Obama, and celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, condemn this reprehensible act.

I wish The Signal Editorial Board could acknowledge this rather than continue to vilify us with inflammatory remarks from their point of view that so obviously defeat the purpose of trying to bring us together.
