A vehicle fire spread to the brush on Interstate 5 in Castaic on Wednesday afternoon, prompting the response of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, an official for the agency said.
L.A. County firefighters and one engine with the Angeles National Forest were dispatched at 12:56 p.m. to the northbound side of the I-5 north of Lake Hughes Road in response to a vehicle fire that began to spread to the brush, said Kaitlyn Aldana, a spokeswoman for the agency.
The first crew arrived at the scene of the incident eight minutes after initial dispatch time to a working fire, she added. Information on the size of the blaze was not immediately available at the time of this story’s publication.
It is unknown at exactly what time firefighters declared knockdown, but crews were released at 1:41 p.m., said Edith Lia, a spokesperson for the L.A. County Fire Department.
The three right lanes on the northbound side of the I-5 near Lake Hughes Road and Sloan Canyon Road were closed for about 22 minutes, according to Officer Carlos Burgos- Lopez, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.
The lanes were closed beginning at 12:59 p.m. as first responders extinguished the flames and were then reopened at 1:22 p.m., Burgos-Lopez added.
No injuries were reported, according to Lia.
