Santa Clarita residents are keeping up the pace and participating in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s next month, and as they gear up for it, a “Walk Kick-Off” event will be held at The Local Pub & Grill on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“Our ‘Walk Kick-Off’ is a casual ‘thank you’ evening to bring previous walkers, volunteers and sponsors together and to introduce our upcoming event to others who have not previously participated,” Debbie DiCorrado, the planning committee volunteer, wrote in an email to The Signal.
The walk is slated to take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Bridgeport Park. The walk site will open at 8 a.m., with the walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. following the opening ceremony at 9 a.m.
Attendees of all ages are invited to join “more than 600 communities nationwide [garner funds for] the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” according to the organization’s website. The incentive of the organization is to encourage the fight against the disease.
While there is no registration fee, residents are encouraged to raise funds and spread the word to support the cause.
At the time of this story’s publication, 171 participants and 60 teams have raised over $49,000, 31% toward the $160,000 goal.
