About $7,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen from a car in Newhall on Wednesday afternoon, according to first responder radio dispatch traffic and an official with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
At approximately 1 p.m., deputies with the SCV Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 24800 block of Orchard Village Road at the ALDI grocery story in Newhall following a report of a suspect stealing $7,000 worth of cigarettes from a vehicle, according to radio dispatch traffic.
The vehicle was broken into while it was parked, and according to the victim 70 cartons of cigarettes were stolen from the vehicle, Public Information Officer Mariela Picard of the SCV Sheriff’s Station wrote in an email to The Signal.
The suspects then fled in a black Volvo four-door sedan with tinted windows, according to radio dispatch traffic, which led deputies to administer a live broadcast for the suspect vehicle.
According to radio dispatch traffic, one suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and was wearing all black and a mask.
Why the victim had a large number of cigarettes was not immediately known as the incident was still under investigation, Picard stated in a followup email. No arrests have been made.
