A woman in her 80s was the person killed in a fatal multivehicle crash on Soledad Canyon Road on Monday afternoon, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
First responders were dispatched to a major traffic collision at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Golden Oak Road at 12:49 p.m., according to initial reports.
The person killed was a passenger of one of the vehicles driven by a woman in her 60s, Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station, told The Signal on Tuesday morning.
The incident remains under investigation, but preliminary information indicated the car driven by the woman in her 60s was traveling eastbound and the driver failed to see a red light, Miller said. The car then collided with a vehicle to its right, where her passenger, the woman approximately in her 80s, sustained fatal injuries.
Due to the collision’s impact, two other vehicles were involved in the crash and a total of two people were transported from the scene, according to initial reports and Miller.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but details in the investigation are still developing as of the publication of this story, Miller added.
The collision caused major traffic delays in the area for commuters and halted Metrolink services for about two hours, Sgt. Anthony Levin said during initial reports.
The woman’s identity has yet to be released by the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office pending next of kin notification.
