Just when I thought Gary Horton was trying to steal John Boston’s title of Resident Humorist of The Signal, Jonathan Kraut has stepped up to the plate and hit a humorous fastball out of the park with his column, “Does Shouting Something Make it the Truth” (Oct. 7). Again, I laughed aloud at his tiresome, persistent berating of President Donald Trump for his bombastic rhetoric.
You criticize President Trump for characterizing his opponents as “radical left lunatics” and “socialists and communists.” Do you mean radical left lunatics like J.B. Pritzker, Gavin Newsom, Brandon Johnson, and Ilhan Omar? Do you mean socialists and communists like Zohran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and AOC?
If the shoe fits.
You also falsely point out that President Trump has “frequently demonstrated cognitive feebleness.” This, perhaps, is your most hilarious statement of all. Was it his cognitive feebleness that led him to bring an end to wars between Iran and Israel, Pakistan and India, Rwanda and Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Serbia and Kosovo? Was it his mental decline that helped him negotiate a peace treaty between Israel and Hamas plus the release of the Oct. 7 hostages? Was it this same dementia that helped him secure commitment of $17 trillion worth of investment into the U.S.? Ask the people of Israel about Trump’s mental acuity.
Now that President Trump has shamelessly been denied the Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Committee should retire that category permanently. Your favorite guy, Barack Obama, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as a gift. How will you spin that? I can’t wait. I need a good laugh.
