A man was killed after a crash Thursday evening on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Magic Mountain Parkway when another driver crashed into the scene of the accident, according to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Carlos Burgos-Lopez.
The details of how he was killed are still being investigated.
Burgos-Lopez said CHP officers received a call at 5:27 p.m. about a single-car northbound crash south of Magic Mountain Parkway.
“As officers responded additional calls came in advising the involved vehicle, white Dodge, was facing the wrong way blocking the No. 1 lane … a Toyota was able to come to a stop for the Dodge,” according to an emailed statement from Burgos-Lopez. “An additional crash occurred when (the) Toyota was rear-ended by a Jeep.”
The drivers both left their cars, and soon afterward another vehicle driving toward the scene was unable to stop before crashing into the two stopped cars, Burgos-Lopez said.
“The driver of the Toyota was run over by one of the vehicles,” according to the emailed statement. “Despite life-saving measures, the driver of the Toyota succumbed to his injuries on scene.”
It’s unclear whether the man was hit by the oncoming vehicle or one of the cars that stopped.
