A Canyon Country traffic collision shortly after midnight Monday left resulted a fire, a power outage and an arrest, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

City officials reported shortly after 8 a.m. that traffic around Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road was still being impacted as crews were working to restore power to about two dozen customers who were forced to do without, as a result of the crash.

“Due to a traffic collision involving a downed power pole, southbound lanes of Sierra Highway are currently closed near the intersection of Sierra Highway/Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country while crews make repairs,” according to a Facebook post from the city of Santa Clarita.

Sgt. R. Arambulo, who declined to give his first name, said the initial response was for a traffic collision at that address after midnight, in the early morning hours Monday.

“It was a report of a traffic collision, a vehicle on fire, and then when the deputies arrived on scene, they did their investigation,” Arambulo said, “and that’s when they conducted their DUI investigation.”

There was no answer to the L.A. County Fire Department’s media information line on Monday to confirm whether there were any injuries as a result of the crash or the subsequent vehicle fire.

Southern California Edison’s power outage map indicated that the utility became aware of the outage around 1:43 a.m. Monday, and as of about 10 a.m., there were still about 22 customers impacted.

Power was expected to be restored to all customers by 7 p.m. Monday, according to Edison’s website.  However, the outage was no longer listed there as of 4:30 p.m.
