A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into two Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station patrol vehicles on Newhall Avenue and 8th Street during the early hours of Sunday morning, according to officials with the station.

The Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended a patrol unit and overturned, blocking both lanes of traffic. Another patrol vehicle had damage to the front bumper, driver’s mirror and it is unknown whether it was also involved. Deputies were taking photos of the patrol vehicle.

Deputies were responding to a domestic violence call when the traffic collision happened, and no one was in the patrol cars when the driver made contact, said Sgt. Ryan Elsee with the station during a phone interview on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies requested an ambulance as a precaution, but the person who was believed to be driving kept denying he was the driver and mentioned he didn’t know what happened and was placed in handcuffs.

While deputies were investigating the collision, another driver approached the intersection, and deputies flashed their lights at the driver as he tried to get through the intersection. One deputy slammed his hand on the hood of the white truck until the driver stopped and was asked to step out.

Deputies conducted a sobriety test, and the driver was later placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI, and he told deputies he had no driver’s license. His family members came out after he was arrested, and the truck was released to his father.

No transports were reported, but Elsee said he could not confirm if that was true due to it not being in the call log at the time of this publication.
