Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a man on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon last month after he was accused of running over another man after a dispute about their bill at a Newhall Mexican restaurant.
The North Hollywood man, identified in arrest records as 36-year-old Aric Kalisi, did not have charges filed as of this story’s publication, according to records available online Monday with L.A. County Superior Court.
SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to Las Originales restaurant on Newhall Avenue on the evening of Oct. 18.
The victim knew the suspect through the victim’s fiance, and a dispute erupted between them over the bill for the dinner they had, according to the detective’s report.
“The victim said the arrestee became upset because he was paying more than the victim,” according to the search warrant’s accompanying affidavit.
Deputies indicated the victim was trying to explain why the suspect was paying more when things became violent.
“The arrestee pushed the victim and proceeded to throw a margarita glass at the victim, hitting him in the face, which caused a laceration,” according to the court record.
The suspect then left the restaurant on foot, dropping his cellphone as he ran to his Jeep SUV, according to the victim’s account.
The victim followed the suspect to his vehicle, then jumped back as the suspect got inside, which placed him in front of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect then drove forward, according to the detective’s sworn statement.
The detective later reported seeing footage from a business owner’s nearby security camera that corroborated the victim’s story, including someone being run over by the Jeep Cherokee, according to a sworn statement.
“As the arrestee backed out of the parking stall with his vehicle facing west (toward the exit), the victim stood in place and raised his right hand to show the arrestee he was holding what appeared to be a cell phone. The arrestee then put the vehicle in ‘drive’ and drove forward towards the victim and hit him with the vehicle. I observed the arrestees’ vehicle continue driving after he struck the victim. I also observed the victim under the arrestees’ car and attempting to crawl out from under the vehicle,” according to the detective’s report.
The report indicates the suspect was positively identified through his relationship to the victim and their mutual friends. An arrest warrant was sworn out Dec. 15 and Kalisi was arrested one week later.
He was released on bond the same day of his arrest in December, and due back in court Monday, according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Department custody records available online.
