A 39-year-old Canyon Country man was arrested on suspicion of felonies including elder abuse and attempting to escape custody on Friday, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The elder abuse arrest stemmed from an incident reported earlier that day on the 17300 block of Humphreys Parkway in Canyon Country, according to an email statement from Shirley Miller, spokeswoman with the station.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim — the suspect’s father — had been physically assaulted by the suspect, Miller’s statement said.

The victim was treated medically at the scene, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse and transported to the station jail for booking, according to the statement.

During the transfer process, the suspect reportedly escaped custody at the deputy vehicle at the station. He tried to flee on foot with handcuffs on and was subsequently taken back into custody after the suspect ran across the street on Golden Valley Road and was additionally arrested on suspicion of felony escape, Miller said in a phone interview on Monday afternoon.

The man remains in custody with no bail, according to the statement.
