Following the departure of longtime coach Chris Printz, Golden Valley High School has named Miguel Mayorga as the new head coach of the boys’ basketball team, according to a statement sent to The Signal.
Mayorga, who served as an assistant on the Grizzlies’ coaching staff for the past two seasons, takes over a Golden Valley team that won its first outright Foothill League championship in 17 years.
“Mayorga, who has served as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach for the past two seasons, brings continuity, proven success and a strong developmental background to the position,” the statement reads.
The statement later adds that Mayorga led the JV team to a 24-2 overall record and a Foothill League title.
Mayorga is a graduate of Hart High School and serves as the director of SoCal Premier basketball, where he has “been instrumental in developing high-level talent and preparing student-athletes for competitive play at the next level.”
“We are excited to elevate coach Mayorga into this leadership role,” the school said in the statement. “His commitment to our student-athletes, his knowledge of the game, and his vision for the program make him the ideal choice to lead Golden Valley basketball into the future.”
At 24 years old, Mayorga is set to become the youngest-ever head basketball coach in Foothill League history, according to the statement.
