Following a loss to the Saugus Centurions in the team’s last Foothill League softball contest, the Hart Hawks bounced back with a 10-2 road win over the Castaic Coyotes and secured their third league win of the season.
The Hawks (8-9, 3-2) were led by sophomore Hannah Cook, who went 3-5 at the plate with a home run.
Cook, who’s tied for fourth in the Foothill League for most home runs with four, also drove in one run in the win over Castaic (6-5, 1-4).
Hawks’ freshman Naima Melendez was also a key bat for Hart as she drove in three runs and ended the day going 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles.
The Coyotes were led by sophomore Tatum McAfee, who ended the day recording a complete game along with striking out five.
Although McAfee allowed 10 runs, seven of them being earned, the sophomore right-hander leads the Foothill League in strikeouts with 102, according to MaxPreps.
The Coyotes will look to bounce back in Foothill League play Thursday at home against the visiting Canyon Cowboys while the Hawks will look to build upon their momentum at home against the West Ranch Wildcats.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
Valencia 6, Canyon 3: The Valencia Vikings (7-5, 3-2) downed the Canyon Cowboys (5-11, 1-4) at home and secured their fifth Foothill League win of the season.
The Vikings were led by freshman Emily Contreras, who went 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs driven in.
Canyon junior Brook Phillips went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run along with a double.
The Cowboys will look to bounce back on Thursday with a road matchup against the Castaic Coyotes while the Vikings face the Grizzlies at home.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
Saugus 25, Golden Valley 0: The Saugus Centurions (11-6, 6-0) secured a big home win over the visiting Golden Valley Grizzlies (0-5, 2-11).
The Centurions scored 15 runs in the first inning with the biggest day at the plate coming from senior Amelia Johnson, who hit a home run and drove in four runs.
The Centurions pick up league play on Tuesday, April 14,against the Castaic Coyotes.
The Grizzlies will look to rebound on the road Thursday against the Valencia Vikings with first pitch scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
