Lacrosse playoff preview: 7 teams set to play in CIF first round

The California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section released its postseason brackets for the boys’ and girls’ lacrosse championships with seven teams from the Santa Clarita Valley set to play in the first round.  

Here’s a look at the first-round matchups:  

Boys’ lacrosse 

Saugus receives first-round bye 

The Centurions, who won the Foothill League title in the regular season, received a bye into the second round of the Division 2 bracket and will host the winner between Westlake and Canyon of Anaheim on Friday.  

West Ranch at Newport Harbor  

The Wildcats will hit the road for the first round, matching up with the Newport Harbor Sailors of Newport Beach in Division 2.  

The game between the Wildcats and Sailors is set to begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Newport Harbor High School.  

Valencia at Wilson 

After making the playoffs on the final day of the regular season, the Vikings are set to play in Division 3 and match up against the Woodrow Wilson Bruins of Long Beach on Wednesday.  

The contest between the Vikings and Bruins is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson High School on Wednesday.  

Hart at University (Irvine)  

The Hart Hawks, who ended the regular season with a 9-6 overall record and outside of contention for an automatic qualifier, earned their bid into the postseason with an at-large entry into the Division 3 bracket.  

The Hawks are set to match up against the University Trojans of Irvine, who ended the season as runner-up in the Pacific Coast League.  

The contest between the Hawks and Trojans is set to begin at 5 p.m. at University High School in Irvine on Wednesday.  

Girls’ lacrosse 

West Ranch vs. Yorba Linda 

The Wildcats, who are the reigning Foothill League champions, were placed in Division 2 and will host in the first round.  

The Wildcats are set to welcome the Yorba Linda Mustangs, who ended their season in third place in the Crestview League.  

The first-round matchup between the Wildcats and Mustangs is set to begin at 7 p.m. at West Ranch High School on Tuesday.  

Saugus at Culver City  

The Centurions, who ended the season in second place in the Foothill League standings, have been placed into the Division 2 bracket.  

For the first round, the Centurions are set to hit the road and match up against the Culver City Centaurs, who are champions of the Ocean League.  

The contest between the Centurions and Centaurs is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Culver City High School on Tuesday.  

Valencia vs. Heritage  

The Vikings, who ended the season in third in the Foothill League standings and with a 9-9 overall record, earned an at-large playoff berth into the Division 3 championship.  

The Vikings are set to host their first-round matchup at Valencia High School against the visiting Hertitage Patriots of Menifee.  

The matchup between the Vikings and Patriots is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Valencia High School on Tuesday.
