For one night only and for the first time ever, the doors to Magic Academy are opening to the public at the Canyon Theatre Guild.
Guests are invited Friday to join “students” Kasmira and Viktor as they try their hand at tricks and tips learned at the prestigious Magic Academy under “Professor” Joseph Gabriel and “Professor” Chuck Jones in this magic and dance extravaganza.
This is a Vegas-style magic show with astounding illusions and Vegas-style dancers, according to a news release from the nonprofit CTG.
“If you lived in L.A. in the ’60s, you may have grown up watching Chuck Jones the Magic Man on local TV,” the release said. “Since then he has entertained thousands of audiences throughout the world with his grand illusions. He was featured on HBO in a magic spectacular and has appeared at Caesar’s Palace and MGM Grand Hotels. He’s produced and directed magic shows at amusement parks, including Knott’s Berry Farm.”
Since then, Chuck Jones & Co. toured Australia and New Zealand for 35 consecutive years, the release said. Jones has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. He creates and builds most of the illusions himself at his studio workshop in California.
“After 25 years of starring in Las Vegas, Joseph Gabriel knows a thing or two about entertaining,” the release said.
Having been discovered by Johnny Carson at a very early age, he quickly became a favorite of Carson’s and made a total of seven appearances on the “Tonight Show,” the release said.
Soon after, he was invited to the White House for a command performance for President Ronald Reagan. Just a few years later, Gabriel was able to fulfill one of his biggest dreams by creating and starring in his own full evening show called, “Magic on Broadway,” which ran in New York City’s Lamb’s Theatre and broke box office records.
Actress, dancer and magician Kasmira Buchanan said of the show, “‘Welcome to Magic Academy’ is a magic and dance show fun for the whole family.”
“Welcome to Magic Academy!” plays on Friday at 8 p.m. with a cash bar. Tickets range from $20 to $40. CTG season ticket holders may contact the box office to receive a discount. For more information or to reserve tickets, call 661-799-2702 or visit canyontheatre.org.
