In a weekend where Rory McIlroy defended his title in the 90th Masters, Valencia High School alumnus Max Homa earned his third top-12 finish at Augusta National and secured his invitation to the 2027 Masters following a tie for ninth place.
Homa, who’s a six-time winner on the PGA Tour, wrapped up his seventh appearance at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, five strokes behind the two-time champion McIlroy.
In the first three rounds, Homa carded a 72, 70 and 71, and was 3-under par but needed his best showing in Sunday’s fourth round to position himself for the top 12 finish.
In the fourth round, Holma carded a 67 (-5) with three birdies in the back nine and an eagle in the 13th hole to climb all the way for the tie in ninth.
The ninth-place finish marked Homa’s third-consecutive top 12 result and landed in the top 10 at the first major of the season following two missed cuts on the PGA Tour.
“Yeah, it feels high – I would like next time to be in contention earlier, not need a miracle on Sunday,” Homa told pgatour.com.
With the ninth-place finish, the 35-year-old earned $630,000 in winnings from the tournament and recorded 187.500 FedExCup points in the PGA Tour that determines playoff eligibility and the ultimate season champion.
