A Canyon Country man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder days after a domestic dispute turned violent involving a mother and son, a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station official confirmed.
James Phillips, 48, was arrested and booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of an attempted murder felony charge, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrest logs.
Sgt. Mark Perkins, a spokesman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station, confirmed to The Signal on Wednesday that Phillips was arrested in connection with a domestic incident in which a woman was stabbed on the 27300 block of Rock Rose Lane at the Park Sierra Apartments on Thursday.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene just after 10 p.m. in response to a report of a stabbing, SCV Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shirley Miller said during initial reports. It was reported that a man, for reasons under investigation at the time, stabbed his mother, who was approximately in her 60s.
According to reports from the scene, the stabbing took place inside the apartment and the woman sustained a stab wound to the head. Miller could not confirm that detail during initial reports but did state she was conscious and breathing when transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The man then jumped from the second story of the apartment complex and first responders located him near a stairwell with serious injuries, according to initial reports. It was not immediately known if he jumped or fell from a window or balcony in an attempt to flee, according to Miller.
Phillips was booked on Tuesday morning at 11:55 a.m., according to the LASD inmate locator, and as of the publication of this story he is being held in lieu of $1.05 million bail. He is being housed at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
Phillips’ plea was not available as of the publication of this story.
