Until recently, the Democrat frontrunner in the California governor’s race was a guy who spent years insisting that Donald Trump was a Russian spy, while he himself was canoodling an actual Chinese spy.
Then his broader canoodling became a problem.
After that, the Democrat frontrunner was Katie Porter, who is best known for screaming profanities at interns and dumping boiling potatoes on her ex, which are skills that will definitely translate to managing a state with a $320 billion budget.
You also have Tom Steyer, a billionaire hedge-fund oligarch running as a champion of the working class — of course — because nothing says, “I understand the struggles of the common man” like owning a football team and having a personal PR firm.
And then there’s Xavier Becerra, whose entire campaign pitch is essentially: “I did the mandates.”
It’s enough to make your average lefty thrilled beyond belief — or perhaps even more depressed and hopeless. But either way, outraged. Always outraged, of course …
