A Metrolink commuter train stuck a reportedly unoccupied car on the tracks late Monday afternoon, prompting a closure of the commuter rail line between the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys and snarling traffic along Soledad Canyon Road just west of Canyon Country.
Traffic was stalled near the right turn lane on Golden Oak Road and Golden Triangle Road after the Metrolink train hit a vehicle around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station personnel were on the scene, closing both sides of the street near the train tracks, as the Metrolink train waited on the tracks.
The vehicle was sitting on the tracks when the train hit it, according to a deputy on the scene, who declined to provide his name.
He said that there were no injuries reported in the vehicle or the train.
The deputy added that he could not give any more information as the investigation was under way.
When asked when the Metrolink would be up again, he said he could not provide any information since Metro workers were doing safety checks to resume operations.
As of 6 p.m., the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s website did not yet post a time for an expected reopening of the line: “ALERT: Tracks are closed between Santa Clarita and Via Princessa due to train 219 striking a vehicle. Please expect delays.’
