If there is one person on the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency board for whom water has been their life, it’s without a doubt Bill Cooper. Prior to his retirement, Bill worked for the Metropolitan Water District for 40 years as a water treatment manager, eventually overseeing the operations and management of all five Metropolitan water treatment plants that supply treated drinking water to almost 10 million people in Southern California. Bill has served on the SCV Water board and on the board of its predecessor agency, Castaic Lake Water Agency, since 1993. Having worked tirelessly to get legislation passed in 2017 to consolidate all water services in Santa Clarita under SCV Water, Bill was voted to be its first board president in January 2018. Our customers have benefitted greatly from his experience and expertise in guiding the new SCV Water Agency through its early years of transition.
Today, as we complete SCV Water’s ninth year of successful operation, the wisdom of consolidation is born out each day as we address new valley-wide challenges, such as treatment and remediation of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination in our local groundwater.
In addition to his SCV Water board position, Bill also serves in a statewide leadership position as a member of the Association of California Water Agencies board of directors. In this capacity, Bill is your voice at the state level. Bill has been a resident of Santa Clarita since 1972 and serves on the Child & Family Center board, and was an adjunct professor at College of the Canyons teaching the environmental technologies water treatment program.
It is imperative that we keep Bill Cooper on the SCV Water board for another term, so please cast your vote for Bill Cooper in Division 1!
