Santa Clarita has grown into a strong and vibrant community because of the many people who have invested their time, talents and energy into making this a great place to live, work and raise a family.
As our community continues to grow, I believe it is important that we continue to value leadership that is rooted in service, relationships, collaboration and a willingness to listen. No one person has all the answers, and good communities are built when people are willing to work together, respect different perspectives and keep the best interests of the community in mind.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to meet and work with many individuals throughout Santa Clarita who demonstrate those qualities. They come from education, business, public service, nonprofits, athletics, faith communities and many other walks of life. What they have in common is a willingness to contribute and help move our community forward.
One person I have known for more than 20 years who has demonstrated many of those characteristics is Gloria Mercado-Fortine.
I have seen Gloria’s commitment to education, public service and the Santa Clarita community over the years. What I appreciate is her willingness to stay involved, work with people and continue serving.
I have learned that leadership is about much more than a title — it is about how you treat people, whether you listen and whether you are willing to show up.
As Santa Clarita moves forward, I believe Gloria’s experience and commitment would be a valuable addition to the Santa Clarita City Council, District 2, and to the continued strength of our community.
