I have known Maria Gutzeit for over 20 years, going back to when we both volunteered on the Senior Center Foundation. She was dedicated to our seniors and to improving their quality of life. And she became my friend — someone I saw as smart, hardworking, empathetic and genuinely caring about our community.
When she first ran for the Newhall County Water District board in 2003, both Charlie and I proudly endorsed her. She helped guide the transition that created the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency and now serves as president of its board of directors.
Maria knows water.
We don’t think much about water until we don’t have enough of it. Or it’s too expensive. Or the quality is threatened. That’s why it’s important to have people on our water board who understand water.
Maria does her homework.
She asks questions and she listens. And all these years later, she still cares deeply about our community having a safe, reliable and sustainable water supply.
Experience, character and commitment matter. Maria has all three.
