Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ volleyball
After a loss to the West Ranch Wildcats on Tuesday, the Saugus girls’ volleyball team bounced back on the road with a straight-set sweep, 25-10, 25-8, 25-11, over the Hart Hawks on Thursday.
“We had a couple of people back from injury, and I liked that we were able to come out and be intense,” Saugus head coach Zach Ambrose said. “We had a little bit of time off and I just wanted to make sure we didn’t come out flat.”
Ambrose said he wanted his team to come out firing with timely serves and key attacks against Hart.
In the first set, the Centurions took a 14-4 lead prior to the Hawks calling a timeout. And in the second set, the Centurions fired away with a 5-0 start and ultimately won, 25-8.
Ambrose said after the game he wanted his team to bounce back quickly and urged his Centurions to treat it as an opportunity to do so.
“This was a get-back-on-track game,” he said. “That was the whole focus, to just make sure we’re ready.”
In Thursday’s win, senior Kimora Hogains led the Centurions in the kills with 11. Sophomore Presley Campbell led the Centurions in aces with five.
With the win, the Centurions improved to a 4-1 Foothill League record and remained in second place in the girls’ volleyball Foothill League standings.
The Centurions will look to build upon their momentum in Foothill League play on Tuesday at Saugus High School against the visiting Castaic Coyotes with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m.
The loss dropped the Hawks to 1-4 in Foothill League play and they will look to bounce back on Tuesday against the Canyon Cowboys at Hart High School with first serve set for 5 p.m.
After Thursday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
West Ranch 3, Canyon 1: After a straight-set sweep over the Hart Hawks on Tuesday, the West Ranch Wildcats (9-5, 5-0) followed up their performance with a four-set win, 25-9, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14, over the visiting Canyon Cowboys (8-7, 2-3) in four sets on Thursday.
For West Ranch, a four-set win in Foothill League play marks the first time the Wildcats have dropped a set since the 2024 season.
Despite the streak coming to an end, the Wildcats remain in first place in the Foothill League standings with a perfect 5-0 league record. The Wildcats will look to build upon their momentum on Tuesday at Valencia High School in a matchup against the Vikings at 5 p.m.
As for Canyon, the loss dropped the Cowboys to fifth in the girls’ volleyball Foothill League standings with a 2-3 record. The Cowboys will look to bounce back in Foothill League play on Tuesday at Hart High School against the Hawks with first serve scheduled at 5 p.m.
Valencia 3, Golden Valley 0: After a four-set loss to Castaic on Tuesday, the Valencia Vikings (5-6, 3-2) bounced back with a straight-set sweep, 25-5, 25-16, 25-20, over the Golden Valley Grizzlies.
With the win, the Vikings improved to 3-2 in Foothill League play and are in fourth place in the standings.
The Vikings will look to build upon their momentum within Foothill League play on Tuesday against the Wildcats at Valencia High School with first serve set for 5 p.m.
As for Golden Valley, the Grizzlies remain winless in Foothill League and look to grab their first win on Thursday at Golden Valley High School against the Castaic Coyotes with first serve set for 5 p.m.
