For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of knowing Gloria Mercado-Fortine both personally and professionally. During that time, I have seen firsthand what so many throughout the Santa Clarita Valley already know: Gloria is a dedicated public servant whose commitment to this community is not defined by an election cycle — it is demonstrated through a lifetime of service.

Gloria’s roots in the SCV run deep. She has served our community as an elected member of both the Castaic Union School District board and the William S. Hart Union High School District board. She has served as president of the Sheriff’s Foundation and has consistently been a voice for people throughout our valley. Importantly, Gloria has a history of being elected by the people to serve the people. She understands that holding public office is a public trust and those elected have a responsibility to listen, collaborate and make decisions with the greater community in mind.

I have also seen Gloria’s ability to work collaboratively on a dais. Her years of elected service demonstrate she can work with people who bring different perspectives to the table, find common ground and help produce decisions that have a lasting impact. That experience will be invaluable on the City Council.

Our challenges do not begin and end at council district boundaries. The recent devastating fire in Old Town Newhall occurred in District 1, but its effects on businesses, families and our community extend far beyond a line on a map. Likewise, the continued business and community growth throughout Santa Clarita requires a council whose members are willing to work together and recognize the success of one district contributes to the success of our entire city.

While Gloria would be elected to represent District 2, I believe she would bring to the council the same philosophy she has demonstrated throughout her public service: Represent your constituents faithfully while working collaboratively with others for the greater good. This is the kind of leadership our community is accustomed to, and it is the kind of leadership our community deserves.

My endorsement is personal. It comes from more than 10 years of knowing Gloria, working alongside her professionally, observing her leadership and watching her consistently show up for this community. Her record of service existed long before this campaign, and I believe that says a great deal about the kind of council member she would be.

Gloria Mercado-Fortine has been trusted by voters before. She has been elected by the people and for the people, and she has honored that trust through service. I proudly endorse her for City Council, and I am asking the voters of District 2 to place that trust in her once again in November.

Santa Clarita has an important future ahead of it. I believe Gloria has the experience, relationships, collaborative spirit and, most importantly, the heart for this community to help lead us into it.
