West Ranch girls’ tennis extends league winning with victory over Saugus

Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ tennis

Following back-to-back Foothill League wins, the West Ranch girls’ team prevailed over the Saugus Centurions, 13-5, and began the league season with a 3-0 record Thursday.  

With the win, the Wildcats (3-1, 3-0) have won three games in a row after a season-opening loss to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks in non-league play. 

In Tuesday’s win over Saugus (2-3, 0-2), the Wildcats’ singles players rallied for an 8-1 record over the Centurions across all three rounds.  

The lone win for Saugus in singles play was from Andrea Munguia, who defeated Wildcats’ Samantha Thai, 6-1.  

In doubles play, the Wildcats and Centurions split overall, 5-4, with West Ranch securing the sweep in the first round.  

With the win on Tuesday, the Wildcats remain in first place in the girls’ tennis Foothill League standings.  

The Wildcats will look to keep up their early-season momentum on Tuesday with a road matchup at Valencia High School against the Vikings.  

Tuesday’s matchup between the Vikings and Wildcats is set to begin at 3 p.m.  

As for Saugus, the Centurions remain winless in Foothill League play and look to bounce back on Monday at 3 p.m. in a matchup against the Castaic Coyotes at Saugus High School.  

After Thursday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:  

Golden Valley 11, Hart 7: After a loss in the Foothill League opener to West Ranch, the Golden Valley Grizzlies (5-1, 2-1) responded with back-to-back wins, including a victory over the Hawks (3-4, 0-2) on Thursday. 

With the win, the Grizzlies own a 2-1 record in Foothill League play and will look to defend their winning streak on the road at Canyon High School against the Cowboys at 3 p.m.  

As for Hart, the loss dropped the Hawks to an 0-2 record to begin Foothill League play and will look to bounce back on Tuesday at Hart High School against the Saugus Centurions at 3 p.m.  

Valencia 15, Castaic 3: After a big win over the Castaic Coyotes (6-3, 0-2) on Thursday, the Valencia Vikings have improved to a 3-0 record in Foothill League play.  

With the victory, the Vikings are winners of four of their last five overall matches and will look to build upon their momentum in Foothill League play on Tuesday at Valencia High School against the visiting West Ranch Wildcats at 3 p.m.  

Although the Coyotes remain winless in Foothill League play, the Castaic girls’ tennis team remains above .500 with a 6-3 overall record.  

The Coyotes will look grab their first win in Foothill League play on Monday at Saugus High School in a matchup against the Centurions with first serve set for 3 p.m.
