Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ tennis
After a season-opening loss to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, the West Ranch girls’ tennis team responded with four straight wins, including an 11-7 victory over the Vikings at Valencia High School on Tuesday.
With the win on Tuesday, the Wildcats (4-1, 4-0) started the Foothill League season 4-0. The Wildcats displayed a resounding performance in singles play as West Ranch swept the Vikings (6-3, 3-1) in each round for a 9-0 record.
As for doubles play, the Vikings defeated the Wildcats, 7-2, including a sweep in the second round.
Across all three rounds in doubles play, Valencia’s Julia Lee and Aubrey Nguyn carried the Vikings as they swept their competiton, 6-0, 6-4, 6-4.
For West Ranch, Diya Arangil and Aaliya Abrar secured a much-needed win in the first round over Valencia’s Makenize Smtih and Jiya Sanghavi.
In the third round of doubles play, Arangil and Abrar defeated Valencia’s Prelee Middleton and Jean Kim to help lead the Wildcats to the overall victory.
Following a 4-0 start to Foothill League play, the Wildcats will look to keep up their winning momentum with a matchup against the Hart Hawks on Tuesday at West Ranch High School with first serve set for 3 p.m.
As for Valencia, the loss handed the Vikings their first loss in the Foothill League season but they remain above .500 overall with a 6-3 record.
The Vikings will look to bounce back quickly on Thursday on the road at Canyon High School in a matchup against the Cowboys with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League:
Hart 12, Saugus 6: Following a road loss to Golden Valley, the Hart Hawks (5-4, 2-2) bounced back with a home win over the Saugus Centurions (2-5, 0-4).
With the win, the Hawks improved to above .500 on the season with a 5-4 overall record. The Hawks will look to build upon their momentum Thursday with a matchup against the Coyotes at Castaic High School at 3 p.m.
As for Saugus, the loss handed the Centurions their fifth loss in the season and the team remains winless in Foothill League play.
The Centurions will look to grab their first win on Thursday at Saugus High School against the visiting Golden Valley Grizzlies with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
Golden Valley 18, Canyon 0: After a Foothill League opening loss to West Ranch, the Grizzlies (6-1, 3-1) responded with three straight wins, including an 18-0 victory over Canyon (6-6, 0-3)
With the win, the Grizzlies secured their sixth overall victory and hold a 4-1 record in Foothill League play.
The Grizzlies will look to build upon their momentum with a road matchup Thursday against the Centurions at Saugus High School with first serve set for 3 p.m.
As for Canyon, the loss dropped the Cowboys to a 6-6 overall record and they remained winless in Foothill League play.
The Cowboys will look to bounce back on Thursday at Canyon High School against the visiting Valencia Vikings with first serve set for 3 p.m.
