Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ volleyball
Going into Tuesday’s home matchup against the Hart Hawks at West Ranch High School, the Wildcats carried a 16-game Foothill League winning streak dating back to the 2024 season.
Following a straight-set sweep, 25-11, 25-6, 25-15, over the Hawks, the Wildcats extended their league winning streak to 17 games and have yet to drop a set in Foothill League play since 2024.
“I think we played clean and really intentional. We’ve been working on that a lot and we’re just going to get out there and make sure we’re getting better every single night,” head coach Jamey Ker said.
With the win, the Wildcats (8-5, 4-0) also extended their in-season winning streak to three games and hold the top spot of the Foothill League standings with a 4-0 record.
As of Tuesday’s win, the Wildcats are ranked as the No. 36 team in the state of California, according to MaxPreps.
And in the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section’s initial girls’ volleyball rankings, which were released on Sept. 8, the Wildcats were placed as the No. 4 ranked team in the Southern Section.
For Ker, the high placement is a product of the recent success for the program after last year’s team finished as runners-up in the Southern Section Division 2 championship.
Despite the initial rankings, Ker has told his team to remain focused on the long-term goals and believes the early-season momentum will help his Wildcats throughout the year.
“It’s a reminder that we earned the right to be there right now, and we’re going to have to continue to earn that,” Ker said. “We stack our preseason in a way that allows us to play high-level teams … those rankings move a whole lot. So, we celebrated it for a moment. It’s motivation, if anything, to say, hey, you know what, we are one of the top teams, and we can continue to compete.”
The Wildcats will look build upon their early-season momentum on Thursday at West Ranch High School in a matchup against the Canyon Cowboys with first serve set for 5 p.m.
As for Hart (4-9-1, 1-3), the loss dropped the Hawks to sixth in the Foothill League standings and they will look to rebound on Thursday with a home matchup against the Saugus Centurions at 5 p.m.
