To Ron Perry (letters, July 10) and anyone else who’s crying “Fire!” or “Wolf!” or any other alarm in the face of the presumed socialist takeover of America: It won’t do any good. Americans aren’t the best when it comes to prevention when there are far more pressing matters at hand, like ball games and beer (or shopping for shoes).
No, with Americans you have to have the child get eaten or the house burn down to the ground before anyone wakes up and takes notice. So, I say we go on with our usual ways and simply let it happen. Let the socialists take over.
We’ll never know how bad things might get unless we actually experience it, and I think we need to know from firsthand experience just how bad things might get. So, enough talk about the beast under your bed (in your closet, in your head). Bring it on. Let’s see the “monster” for what it really is (or isn’t).
