The Foothill League held its first meet of the season with the Hart boys’ and Saugus girls’ cross-country teams capturing their respective wins Saturday at Central Park.
In the boys’ 3-mile race, Saugus senior Adrian Cantu secured the win with a total time of 15:18.4.
Although Cantu secured the individual race win, the Hart boys’ team ended the day first with the lowest official total team score of 41.
The Hawks ended the boys’ race with four runners in the top 10 with Hart’s Jameson Wiley, who’s a senior, leading his team with a time of 15:26.1.
In third place in the boys’ race, West Ranch’s sophomore Victor Esquivel Jr. finished three seconds behind Wiley with a total time of 15:29.7 and led all Wildcats.
The Wildcats, as a team, finished in second place with their top four runners ending the day in the top 15.
As for Valencia, the Vikings finished with a total team score of 57, one point higher than the third-place Wildcats, with two runners in the top 10.
Valencia junior Miles Archie led all Vikings following the boys’ race in fifth place with a total individual time of 15:34.5, 16 seconds off the leader.
Despite Cantu taking the individual race win, the Saugus Centurions ended Saturday’s race in fourth place with 60 points.
As for Golden Valley, the Grizzlies recorded 154 points and ended the boys’ race in fifth place with junior Carson James leading all Grizzlies with a total time of 16:38.3.
In sixth place in the boys’ race, the Canyon Cowboys finished with 180 points and were led by senior Chase Hutchinson, who ended the day in 31st place with a time of 17:43.3.
Rounding out the boys’ race, the Castaic Coyotes finished Saturday’s race in seventh place with 191 points and leading runner junior Preston Abasta leading the pack in 34th place with a total time of 18.11.4.
In the girls’ 3-mile race, Valencia sophomore Reese Ray crossed the finish line first with a total time of 18:22.4 and 25 seconds ahead of second place.

Despite the Vikings ending the day with Ray in first place, Valencia finished with a total team score of 44 and third overall with three runners in the top 10.
The Saugus Centurions secured the overall team with 37 points with both juniors Olivia Corrigan and Kai Ramsbottom finishing second and third, respectively.
Corrigan, who recorded her personal best in the 3-mile race, ended Saturday’s race with a total time of 18:47.0 while Ramsbottom finished three seconds behind with an 18.50.2
As for Hart, the Hawks finished with 39 points as a team and in second place in the girls’ race with four runners in the top 10. Hart’s Kaithlyn Cottrill led all Hawks with a total time of 19.02.3
Ending the girls’ race in fourth place, the Wildcats finished with 123 points with junior Kadence Hammett leading all West Ranch runners in 21stplace with a total time of 21:21.7.
Rounding out the official scores, Canyon finished in fifth place with leading runner junior Isabella Garcia leading all Cowboys with a total time of 20:40.2.
As for Castaic and Golden Valley, both teams did not report official team scores as they ended the girls’ race with five or fewer runners.
Golden Valley’s Carpriana Yagiela, who’s a sophomore, finished as the leading Grizzly with a total time of 21:03.7 in 20th place.
Castaic’s Zoe Hofman, who’s a senior, led all Coyotes with a total time of 22:03.9.
These teams will race again against each other at the Foothill League Finals, set to be held on Nov. 5 at Central Park.
