I was writing another letter to the editor when I came across Arthur Saginian’s letter in The Signal, “Exercising Those Rights,” Oct. 7. I felt compelled to rebut his letter, feeling that he is seeing things through rose-colored glasses. Yes, Arthur, there is “a time and place for everything,” as you expressed your feelings that the Olympians were rude and tasteless in expressing their political views in how their country was being run with such a “negative agenda.” It is short-sighted on your part. What better venue to express your political feelings than on a world stage such as the Winter Olympics in front of a captive audience, and lest we forget JD Vance was booed by the audience, made up of foreigners as well as Americans at the Olympics. And, yes Arthur you are right that “there are many in this country who are active advocates for anarchy.” Just go to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and by the way the White House is the “People’s House.”
Donald Trump is now the worst president in American history, and you Arthur are criticizing a group of Olympians for airing their grievances and their political views.
Arthur, it would behoove you to look up the List of 300 acts of harm caused by this administration since Jan. 20, 2025, and look up this article, “Tracking the Trump Administration’s Harmful Executive Actions.” I think I have proven my point about the Olympians airing their political grievances at a world venue with a captive audience. How smart were they to choose that world venue?
Now let’s talk about Trump’s war that is going nowhere and costing billions. That money could cover the daily cost of Medicaid or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) for millions of Americans.
Again I’m very proud of those Olympians for taking a stand and a chance at telling their story of the negative agenda happening in America. Our democracy must prevail at all cost, and if it takes voting people out of office who have damaged our country, so be it. Seeing the negative things about our present government while wearing “rose-colored-glasses” isn’t helping matters.
God bless America and may our democracy flourish.
