Re: Jonathan Kraut, commentary, “An Affront to the Dignity of Our Shared History,” Aug 11.
First off, according to Mr. Kraut’s own words and observations regarding U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s actions when she defied and angered President Donald Trump by dropping the charges/case against former U.S. Olympian David Hearn, not all of President Trump’s appointees act just to please him!
Personally I never bought the president’s “theory” that this guy did that damage to the lining of the pool, but as a U.S. attorney, Ms. Pirro has a higher ethical and legal responsibility to actually look at and listen to ALL of the evidence before bringing charges against someone.
And as a longtime student of both our Constitution as well as the presidents of our country, I would ask that Mr. Kraut give us some examples of U.S. presidents starting with George Washington all the way up to President Trump who have not pushed their supposed “authority” as far as Congress and the Supreme Court allowed them to. This is certainly not something unique to President Trump and about the only difference is the fact that he conducts the business of being president far more publicly than just about any of his predecessors … which some love and others hate.
