“Thanks for keeping us safe!” was such a ridiculous slogan. In hindsight, it’s even more so.
Not only “didn’t” they keep anyone safe — because literally everybody caught COVID (ahem!) — they trampled the freedoms of hundreds of millions of citizens along the way, for nothing.
They cost us trillions of dollars, for nothing.
They stole years of education from our youth and destroyed millions of businesses and took on trillions more in government debt, for nothing.
And the long-term disruption to chronic disease management, like the massive transfer of wealth from poor to rich, was unconscionable.
Worst of all, the same folks who pushed that insanity are now pretending that they had nothing to do with it.
And the most galling lie they tell themselves now is “it would have been worse” without all their “whoopsie!” ridiculous rules.
Of course there’s no way to prove nor disprove such a claim, which is why that is all they have left.
