A big rig carrying Amazon goods driving 2 miles south of Quail Lake on Interstate 5 was engulfed in flames Friday night, according to the L.A. County Fire Department.
Fire Department spokesperson Pauline McGee had no information about the driver or how the big rig caught fire Friday, but said no injuries were reported and no one was transported from the scene for treatment.
Firefighters were sent to the big rig near Smoky Bear Road at 9:30 p.m., McGee said. The tractor trailer was covered in flames that had spread to a small amount of nearby brush before being put out.
California Highway Patrol officer Michael Nassir said two of the big rig’s tires were dislodged and landed in southbound lanes. Nassir confirmed the trailer was carrying Amazon products.
CHP personnel received the call about the big rig at 9:35 p.m. and shut down two lanes of the I-5, Nassir said. One northbound lane was reopened at about 10:45 p.m. and another less than an hour later at 11:25 p.m., Nassir said.
The scene was officially cleared at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Nassir said.
