Even as Labor Day unofficially marked the end of summer, so it unofficially marked the beginning of the general election season.

Last weekend we laid out the scope of Santa Clarita Valley voters’ November mega-ballots and pledged to keep you informed on the issues; this week we invite you to join in the democratic process and participate in our election public forum.

Got a favorite candidate? Insight into a particular ballot measure? A bone to pick with a candidate’s campaign method? Verifiable and relevant information about a would-be elected official?

The Opinion pages of The Signal are your public forum for civil discussion of SCV. We invite opinions aimed at fully informing readers about choices they face on the crowded November ballot; we will not publish anonymous submissions or libelous material.

No fees are associated with this public forum service, but letters and columns are subject to editing and published at editors’ discretion. Multiple form letters submitted in a bid to run a campaign out of our newspaper pages will not be published.

Candidate columns and letters were cut off after Labor Day weekend to prevent them from stumping in our Opinion section. But readers and non-candidate columnists are welcome to send submissions to [email protected]. Names, addresses and phone numbers are required; only name and community are published. Form letters will not be published.

Nov. 5 will be the last day to publish campaign letters and columns.

Check out the letters and column guidelines on our website.
