A motorist who sheared the top off of a fire hydrant and knocked down three light poles on Plum Canyon Road shortly before noon Wednesday was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.
The unidentified man was freed from the wreckage of a crumpled silver-colored Honda Accord shortly after noon by firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Emergency response crews were dispatched 11:53 a.m. for reports of a car hitting a fire hydrant on the 20000 block of Plum Canyon Road, Fire Department Inspector Richard Licon told The Signal Wednesday.
Firefighters arrived at the crash at 11:58 a.m. and immediately began trying to free the trapped motorist using hydraulic shears.
Officials with the Santa Clarita Water Division were called to the scene to cap the geyser of water sent shooting into the air from the damaged hydrant.
As well, officials with Southern California Edison were called to repair the three downed light poles.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responding the crash found a tire believed to be from the car about 150 feet from the vehicle.
The dislodged hydrant was found about 200 feet from its base.
