TMU MEN

TMU 66, Cal Maritime 63

A late jump shot by Travis Yenor sealed a 66-63 win for The Master’s University’s men’s basketball team over Cal Maritime University Friday night.

Junior guard Lawrence Russell, who led TMU (7-0) in scoring with 21 points, tied the game at 61 with a jump shot with 2:23 left. A Cal Maritime (5-6) bucket put the Keelhaulers up by two points, but junior forward Matthew McClain, who trailed only Russell in points with 17, tied the game up again with two free throws with 1:39 left in the second half.

Yenor, who had six points, hit his jump shot with 28 seconds left, and free throw with 18 seconds left to seal the home win. TMU will next play Westmont College at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.

TMU WOMEN

TMU 82, Northern New Mexico 37

Early in the evening TMU’s women’s basketball team, ranked No. 14 in the preseason NAIA Division 1 Women’s Basketball Coach’s poll, defeated Northern New Mexico 82-37.

TMU (6-1) Northern New Mexico (4-6) 34-23 at halftime, but the Mustangs blew the game open in the second half though, outscoring the Eagles 48-14 en route to the win.

Ashley Bartow led TMU with 15 points. Megan Lindsley also had 14 points. Bianca Cubello led TMU with 10 rebounds.

COC MEN

Riverside 83, COC 61

The College of the Canyons men’s basketball team fell, 83-61, against Riverside City College in the second round of the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament in San Jacinto.

Michael Kalu led the Cougars with 24 points, while Alex Sanchez followed close behind with 19. Kalu also led in rebounds with eight.

As a team, COC shot 48.6% and 36.8% from behind the arc. However, the Cougars struggled to keep the ball. Riverside capitalized on their mistakes and scored 27 points off of turnovers and ultimately outshot COC 60-37.

Canyons continues tournament play tomorrow for third place in San Jacinto at 3 p.m.
