Families took advantage of the stream running through Placerita Canyon Natural Area in Newhall, and decided to get a bit muddy on Sunday.

Sian Comora decided to take her nephew and his friends out to spend a couple hours outside.

“I think it’s just so important for them to learn and see the world,” Comora said. “There’s so much beautiful nature, and if they’re not outside they just want to play with iPads and see films.”

Nine-year-old Shiva Bhushan spent his day climbing trees and hiking up hills, and couldn’t decide what his favorite part of the day was.

“I liked everything about today, but mostly the adventure part,” Bhushan said.
